Hey I’m Dan.

I am currently working for the largest e-commerce platform based in New Zealand, Trade Me. Check out my selection of work to get an understanding on how I approach problems and discover solutions.

“I fell in love with design from an early age. I love the craft, colours, typography and layouts. My passion lead to my bachelor of design. This feed my second love of problem solving. Identifying problems and spending hours adding and subtracting, until I find the magical moment where everything “feels right.”

— Daniel Drummond

Here is a little bit about my journey

My graduation from Massey University with a Bachelor of Design (honours) has led me into the becoming a specialist of UX and product design. Upon joining The Hyperfactory in 2010 I developed skills enabling me to become leading expert in mobile focused interactivity. When the Hyperfactory was brought by Meredith Publishing, I was one of the selected employees to join the team in NYC. The Hyperfactory latter became MXM where I continued to embark on a mission to become a leading expert in mobile focused interactivity and creative design.

While in NYC I worked on creating hybrid advertising and utilitarian experiences through mobile apps. This included, Gerber's suite of apps for new parents and Krafts iFood recipe book. Working on these apps I decided to become more focused on iterating on a single product experience, moving away from the fast fleeting advertising environment. This directly lead to my decision to join the Trade Me team as a Senior UX designer.

Coming from a smaller team at MXM I understood all stages of the product development process. I refined this skill while working in a larger company which provided different hurdles including expanding my sphere of influence. I have achieved this by effectively managed stakeholders, created alignment across different design teams, fully understand problems and effectively communicate solutions. I have done this while keeping a close relationship with our engineering team ensuring quality features are released to our our users in an agile workflow.

My work at Trade Me has had me being heavily involved in turning our secondhand marketplace into a fully fledged e-commerce platform. I have worked on many projects helping facilitate this direction. This includes, introducing a shopping cart, redefining search & refine, making it super easy to book a courier and my latest work adding shipping throughout search (and beyond). My involvement In these complex projects has made me known for being able to turn widely complex problems into well tuned and simple user experiences.
